All of us here at GatherBoard are so excited to welcome back our superstar intern from two years ago, Betta Lyon-Delsordo. Here she is, in her own words:
Hello and Hola! I’m Betta Lyon-Delsordo, and I will be returning to GatherBoard this summer as an intern, working on computer science and marketing projects, as well as language translation. Desplácese hacia abajo para leer esta entrada en español. I just finished my first year at the University of Montana, where I am studying Computer Science and Spanish. I was an intern with GatherBoard two years ago and am excited to be back!
This summer I will be a remote intern, which means I will be working through my computer as I travel. I’ll be staying in in cities like Santiago, Chile; San Francisco, USA; and Vigo, Spain while I work part time for GatherBoard. The other part of the week, I will work part time in exchange for room and board through an organization called WorkAway. This is an amazing organization that matches volunteers with host families all over the world. I am so excited to get started!
For GatherBoard, I’ll be writing blog and social media posts, working on features for the website and back-end for site owners, as well as using automation tools to make everything more efficient. A key part of this internship will also be to improve language translation across all of GatherBoard’s services, where I will be creating bilingual content for blog posts, social media, and help sections. I also plan to work on creating better automatic translations for all of Google’s supported languages.
Since I was an intern two years ago, I have built on my computer science skills and greatly improved my Spanish. I graduated from Big Sky High School, and ran my third year of a club to teach middle school girls how to do computer programming. My time with GatherBoard sparked an interest in entrepreneurship, and just two weeks ago I worked with a team to win the TechStars Startup Weekend in Los Angeles!
I am very interested in travel, and last summer I spent a month in Thailand volunteering with host families.
In the fall, I will study abroad in Spain to improve my Spanish and learn about the needs of non-English speaking programmers. Since all coding languages are based in English, I am interested to learn what challenges this poses to non-native speakers and what can be done to break down the language barrier in technology.
I look forward to an exciting and productive summer, and I hope I can make GatherBoard’s services easier for everyone to use. Stay tuned for updates about my travels and new features!

¡Hola y Hello! Soy Betta Lyon-Delsordo, y voy a volver a GatherBoard este verano como pasante, trabajando en proyectos de informática y mercadotecnia, así como traducción del idioma. He completado mi primer año en la Universidad de Montana, donde estoy estudiando informática y español. Yo era un pasante con GatherBoard hace dos años, ¡y estoy entusiasmada de estar de vuelta!
Este verano seré un pasante a distancia, lo que significa que voy a estar trabajando en mi computadora mientras viajo. Me quedaré en ciudades como Santiago, Chile; San Francisco, Estados Unidos; y Vigo, España mientras trabajo a medio tiempo para GatherBoard. La otra parte de la semana, trabajaré a medio tiempo a cambio de alojamiento y comida a través de una organización llamada WorkAway. Esta es una organización increíble que conecta a voluntarios con familias anfitrionas en todo el mundo. ¡Estoy tan emocionada de empezar!
Para GatherBoard, estaré escribiendo publicaciones de blogs y redes sociales, trabajando en características para el sitio web y “back-end” para propietarios de sitios, así como usando herramientas de automatización para hacer que todo sea más eficiente. Desde que era pasante hace dos años, he desarrollado mis habilidades en informática y he mejorado mucho mi español. Mi tiempo con GatherBoard despertó un interés en el emprendimiento, ¡y hace dos semanas trabajé con un equipo para ganar el fin de semana de Startup TechStars en Los Ángeles!
Estoy muy interesado en viajar, y el verano pasado pasé un mes en Tailandia como voluntaria con familias anfitrionas. En el otoño, estudiaré en España para mejorar mi español y aprender sobre las necesidades de los programadores que no hablan inglés. Dado que todos los lenguajes de programación se basan en inglés, me interesa saber qué desafíos crea esto para los hablantes no nativos y qué se puede hacer para derribar la barrera lingüística en la tecnología.
Tengo muchas ganas de un verano divertido y productivo, y espero hacer los servicios de GatherBoard sean más fáciles de utilizar para todos. ¡Mantente atento a las actualizaciones sobre mis viajes y nuevas funciones!
