Bring your community together

Employee Spotlight: Lori Chase

Hi, my name is Lori Chase. I am the Operations Manager at GatherBoard, which is a fancy way of saying that I do all kinds of things behind the scenes, pretty much whatever is required, to keep things flowing. I love GatherBoard because our calendars bring people together.

With bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Anthropology, a minor in Creative Writing, and two yoga teacher certifications, I have done many different jobs, such as outdoor recreation leader, rock climbing instructor, data entry supervisor, and historical researcher. Before I came to work at GatherBoard, I was a part-time yoga teacher and full-time mom. I didn’t plan to be a stay at home mom. I was a graduate student when my youngest son was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis, and suddenly my career took a back seat to keeping my son healthy. As a stay at home mom with young children, I felt the need to connect with others, so I got involved with various groups, volunteered and organized all kinds of things. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I had already become a community connector.

When the time came for me to rejoin the workforce, GatherBoard felt like a perfect fit. It has allowed me to use my organizational skills in a way that feels meaningful to me, as well as allowing me the freedom to be with my children as much as possible. Plus I get to work with a great group of people, and help to bring people together. It’s great to see what is going on in my community and others, and to help people get the word out about their events. I still teach yoga part time, and this is another way that I connect with a wide variety of people. I love it when I meet people and tell them what I do for work. Usually they say things like “I use that site all the time,” or, “oh, you’re the one who approves my events!” And when I meet people from other communities and I explain to them what I do, we invariably end up talking about how a GatherBoard calendar would be great for their community.
