Hi there, this is Betta the intern with my final travel update for the summer. I have made it to Spain, where I will spend the next year studying Computer Science and Spanish at the Universidad de Vigo. Desplácese hacia abajo para leer esta entrada en español. I have had an incredible summer of travels and experiences and created a lot of new content to benefit GatherBoard users. I think that remote work is a wonderful opportunity, and this internship has strengthened my interest in having a remote career.
My home for the next year is in the city of Vigo, Spain, located in the autonomous region of Galicia in the northwest corner of the country. This region has a unique culture that includes seafood, bagpipes, and its own language. Gallego is a mix of Spanish and Portuguese, and right now it is very difficult for me to understand! I hope to keep learning more, and I can take a Galician language and culture course. I’m living in an apartment in the city center with other international students and take the bus every day to campus in the hills above town. This is a stunningly beautiful part of the world, and I’ve been able to explore the islands, beaches, and lakes nearby. I am very excited to settle into life here!
My travels this summer have taken me to three continents, and into the homes of numerous fascinating people. All the while I’ve been working on GatherBoard projects to make calendar management easier and more accessible for everyone. This has included the creation of a bilingual help center, completed help sections in the management portal, website updates, and welcome materials for new license holders. For me, it has been the perfect combination of travel and training, programming and Spanish. I’ve met several remote workers along the way, people who work online and travel full time. There are the difficulties of being alone and of time management, but all it takes is a glance out the window to reinforce how lucky you are. I would challenge anyone who is interested in this lifestyle to really explore the possibilities; you just might find your dream job!

Hola, soy Betta la pasante con mi última actualización de viaje para el verano. He llegado a España, donde pasaré el próximo año estudiando Informática y Español en la Universidad de Vigo. He tenido un verano increíble de viajes y experiencias, y he creado una gran cantidad de contenido nuevo para beneficiar a los usuarios de GatherBoard. Creo que el trabajo a distancia es una oportunidad maravillosa, y esta pasantía ha fortalecido mi interés en tener una carrera remota.
Mi hogar para el próximo año se encuentra en la ciudad de Vigo, España, situada en la comunidad autónoma de Galicia en la esquina noroeste del país. Esta región tiene una cultura única que incluye mariscos, gaitas y su propio idioma. Gallego es una mezcla de español y portugués, y ¡para mí es muy difícil de entender en este momento! Espero seguir aprendiendo más, y tengo la oportunidad de tomar un curso de lengua y cultura gallega. Estoy viviendo en un apartamento en el centro de la ciudad con otros estudiantes internacionales, y tomo el autobús todos los días al campus en las colinas por encima de la ciudad. Esta es una parte increíblemente hermosa del mundo, y he explorado las islas, playas y lagos cercanos. ¡Estoy muy emocionada de instalarme en la vida aquí!
