Hello once again! This is Betta the intern, and I am back to do some remote work for GatherBoard. Desplácese hacia abajo para leer esta entrada en español. Last summer I traveled to Chile, California, and Italy while working online to create a help center, a Montana Events page, and much more. You can read more about my adventures here.
I am currently studying in Spain, and have been able to visit Portugal and Morocco as well. My trip to Morocco had me thinking about one common idea: the transition from old to new. It is a new decade and I am starting on some new work to make GatherBoard even better as well.
The country of Morocco is full of contrasts between the old and the new. Located on the corner of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, it has been conquered by just about every other culture in the region. This shows in the shops selling Portuguese pastries out of Spanish-style buildings, next to traditional bath houses with French advertisements. The streets are full of donkeys and horse-drawn carriages competing for road space with motor bikes and busses. You might even catch a glimpse of someone riding a camel while chatting on their cell phone!
When families go out for dinner to a road-side stand, Mom and Dad might be wearing traditional full-length robes while the kids are in skinny jeans and Star Wars t-shirts. I stayed with a family and helped with cleaning in their desert hostel, and they explained to me that Morocco was going through a rapid shift in technology and culture. The challenge is to make sure that everyone has equal access to new technologies, while preserving the cultures that make this country so unique.
This rapid development of technology has happened all over the world, and there exists the same challenge of improving access for all. That’s why I’ve been tasked to help GatherBoard become a multilingual platform. Our event calendars serve to bring communities together, and that should include speakers of any language. I am currently researching a translation widget for the calendars, and have written a host of articles for Spanish speakers. We hope that GatherBoard can enter the new decade as a force to bring people together around the world. Stay tuned for more updates and new features!

Actualización de viajes de Año Nuevo: Lo antiguo y lo nuevo

¡Hola de nuevo! Esta es Betta la pasante y estoy de vuelta para hacer un trabajo en forma remota para GatherBoard. El verano pasado viajé a Chile, California e Italia mientras trabajaba a través de la computadora para crear un centro de ayuda, una página de eventos de Montana y mucho más. Actualmente estoy estudiando en España, y he visitado Portugal y Marruecos también. Mi viaje a Marruecos me hizo pensar en una idea común: la transición de lo antiguo a lo nuevo. Es una nueva década y estoy empezando con un nuevo trabajo para hacer GatherBoard aún mejor también.
El país de Marruecos está lleno de contrastes entre lo antiguo y lo nuevo. Situado en la esquina del Mediterráneo y el Atlántico, ha sido conquistado por muchas de las otras culturas de la región. Esto se muestra en las tiendas que venden pasteles portugueses de edificios de estilo español, junto a casas de baño tradicionales con anuncios franceses. Las calles están llenas de burros y carruajes tirados por caballos que compiten por el espacio de la carretera con motos y autobuses. ¡Incluso podrías echar un vistazo a alguien montando un camello mientras charla en su teléfono celular! Cuando las familias salen a cenar a un puesto en la carretera, mamá y papá podrían ser vestido en el traje tradicional mientras los niños están en jeans ceñidos y camisetas de Star Wars. Me alojé con una familia y me ayudó con la limpieza en su albergue del desierto, y me explicaron que Marruecos estaba pasando por un rápido cambio en la tecnología y la cultura. Incluso tenían una banda que incluía batería e instrumentos locales – ¡y una guitarra eléctrica! El desafío es asegurarse de que todos tengan igual acceso a las nuevas tecnologías, a la vez que preservar las culturas que hacen de este país un lugar tan único.
Este rápido desarrollo de la tecnología ha ocurrido en todo el mundo, y existe el mismo desafío de mejorar el acceso para todos. Es por eso que me han encargado ayudar a GatherBoard a convertirse en una plataforma multilinguista. Nuestros calendarios de eventos sirven para reunir a las comunidades, y eso debe incluir hablantes de cualquier idioma. Actualmente estoy trabajando para investigar un widget de traducción para los calendarios, y he escrito muchos artículos para hablantes de español. Esperamos que GatherBoard pueda entrar en la nueva década como una fuerza para reunir a personas de todo el mundo. ¡Mantente atento a más actualizaciones y nuevas funciones!
