There’s No Place Like Home

Hello!  This is Betta the traveling intern, back home in Montana, and all done with traveling for the time being. If you’ve read any of my past updates, you’ll know that I spent the last year traveling across three continents while working remotely for GatherBoard!  Just a month ago, I returned from studying abroad in Vigo, Spain to my home in Missoula, Montana, and I must say it is good to be back.  I spent two weeks camping out at Swan Lake for quarantine, and then was able to reunite with my friends and family.  The pandemic has ended my travels and those of many others for now, but it has made me realize that there really is no place like home.

In times of crisis, it is incredible how communities come together to make sure that no one gets left behind.  I spent the last year in a wonderful and supportive Spanish community, but I lacked the connections to really be of any help when the pandemic hit.  For three months of lockdown, I stayed in my little attic apartment wishing I could do more to help!  Now that I am back in Missoula, I can be there to support my friends, family, neighbors and the local organizations that are doing so much good.  Because this is my home, I really feel a duty to do whatever I can to help, and it is heartwarming to see the same from others.  Home is where your heart is, and mine is with all of the people I care about.

I’ve been so glad to be a part of the work that GatherBoard is doing as well, to support local businesses through MissoulaEvents.net.  As soon as the closures and cancelations began, Team GatherBoard worked tirelessly to transform an in-person event calendar into a community resource hub, with everything from new restaurant take-away hours and live streaming concerts, to government webinars and kids’ activities.  In this time of social isolation, online event calendars are more important than ever to stay connected, to keep our local businesses open, and to support musicians and artists that rely on social gatherings.  As we find ourselves quarantined in our hometowns, let’s all try to do what we can to safeguard the wonderful people and players that make this place our home.

No hay lugar como el hogar

Julio 2020

¡Hola!
